Frans van Lent vroeg me enige tijd geleden mee te doen aan een project van hem: The places where we are (or would like to be)

Hij heeft dat nu uitgewerkt in The places we were:

“On 24 July 2018, while walking in the Perigord, I had phone conversations with friends about the places we were at the moment: The places where we are (or would like to be). During these talks, we sent each other pictures of our surroundings.
For me, this occasion connected the conversations to the specific places; they became inextricably linked.
I cannot walk past these places now without thinking of the person I was talking to there, and of the conversation we had. Today, I revisited three places.”

Trace of muse

And this is the edition I made for l’Anniversaire de l’Art: Trace of Muse. You might remember the first appearance when I was having a beer during my residency in France in 2008. Or the search for her under water as a Malieveld-action off-site in France. During my research in the USA she also appeared in San Francisco at Montgomery. I even have a text on shard about her! These are stones taken from the Sorgue River on January 5, 2023. It is an edition of five footprints of the muse I keep encountering. The colour comes from pigment I got from Roussillon near the source of the Sorgue river:

Les Idiolithes

This past weekend the opening of ‘Les idiolithes’ took place in Paris. After the first performances with ‘Conversation with a Stone about Freud’s Correspondence about Stones’ executed by Forbes Morlock and ‘Sounding the Stone‘ by Yorgos Dimitriades the video’s ‘Les idiolithes’ by KRAATZ,  ‘Soma(2) – Moksha ‘by Sabine Bürger and ‘Stage Arousal‘ by EX MÊKH are shown for the first time on the sixteen screens on the front of the building.

On the second day the ritual return of the stone is executed: the members of Kraatz pass the stone to the members of EX-MÊKH. After a break the performance ‘Sentiers d’été‘ is executed by Kees Koomen and after another break Ex-MÊKH’s Ellen Rodenberg gives a workshop.

Farewell

On the 28th of may Jane Huldman retired from her work at STROOM in Den Haag. Everybody in the art-scene in Den Haag knows and loves her and her colleagues at STROOM asked all of us to send a memory or a thought about Jane. It resulted in a digital Liber Amicorum. In spite of a late start, it was a pleasure to make a personal portrait of Jane in the way I am working on my Brief Encounters series. You can see the result below!

Hectobar 4.0

During Art Rotterdam 2020 Hectobar 4.0 took place in TENT, Rotterdam. This is a swap or buy fair for artists and collectors. It works a bit like Fitax used to do. I showed sketches for three pre-Trump portraits that I made in 2016 in the USA, in the period Obama was still president and Trump tried to take his place. I had a fine score with the works of Annique Weve, Niels Post and Jeroen Jongeleen changing their works for mine!

Kauwgompje II

Enige tijd geleden plaatste ik hier een post over een Kauwgompje dat ik voor Ieke Trinks heb benoemd en waarvoor ik een bedrag heb genoemd waarvoor het gekocht kon worden. Kort geleden stuurde ze me een mail met het bericht dat het in Stockholm verkocht werd met de volgende tekst van de enthousiaste koper:
“My son studied at KABK and I gave the Kauwgompje to him and he screamed and said its found at the same adress we have our workshop this spring!!! So it might have been some of his buddies who spit it out the 27th of january. Suddenly the walue was was all time high!
I now have it exposed side by side to a filterpostkart made of Joseph Beuys
LEL”.

Een erg mooi toeval voor iemand die Joseph Beuys les heeft zien geven, zelf aan de KABK gestudeerd heeft, en daar recent nog gastlessen gaf!

De Aanschouw

De Aanschouw maakt deel uit van een groep van zeven Rotterdamse initiatieven die in het Torrence Art Museum in Los Angeles exposeren met zeven plaatselijke kunstenaarsinitiatieven. Voor deze gelegenheid geeft de Aanschouw alle kunstenaars die ooit via de Aanschouw werk hebben laten zien de gelegenheid om digitaal werk op te sturen om ter plekke te printen en zo deel uit te maken van een installatie van de Aanschouw. Aangezien EX-MÊKH bij de Aanschouw exposeerde werden ook wij uitgenodigd. Zelf maakt ik samen met anderen “Ysland”, een magazine,  in de tijd dat ik in de Verenigde Staten studeerde (1981-1982) het leek me leuk om drie bijdragen voor dat magazine van mijn hand  naar L.A. te sturen, dat werden deze drie:

Kauwgompje

In februari was ik bij de open ateliers in de Borgerstraat in Rotterdam waar ook Ieke Trinks was als gastkunstenaar. Zij liet bezoekers een voorwerp benoemen en vervolgens verpakte ze dat voorwerp met de naam die de bezoeker gegeven had en voegde het als kunstwerk toe aan haar presentatie. Ik had een stukje kauwgom genomen dat ze op straat in Den Haag had gevonden. Ze stuurde me een foto van het werkje, waarschijnlijk omdat ik haar tijdens “Het Binnenhuis” van Frans van Lent had gezien als performer.
